Grace King ’17 was accepted to the M.A. History Program at the University of Edinburgh! Grace was a History and American Studies double major with a minor in Black Studies. Congratulations, Grace, and keep up your great work in graduate school!
“I have accepted an offer to begin my masters in History at the University of Edinburgh this fall. I graduated PC in 2017 with a double major in History and American Studies and a minor in Black Studies. I feel fully equipped for success in my degree after the interdisciplinary education I received from PC. I am extremely grateful that PC expanded my knowledge beyond the white-washed version of American history that I was previously taught in grade school. Taking 4 semesters of DWC allowed me to understand that our nation’s values and institutions were built on both the ideas and histories of Western tradition. Using this critical lens, I was able to see both contemporary and historical events in a contrasted light. My minor in Black Studies showed me that contemporary race relations in the US have not come to exist in a vacuum, and it is more important than ever to uncover selective disinformation and connect our past with our present. I look forward to diving deeper into the history of the US by studying outside of our country, and cannot wait to expand my knowledge! Thank you to all my incredible professors who have challenged, inspired, and encouraged me. I hope to have that same impact on my students in the future.”
