9/17/20: Virtual Discussion with Dr. Margaret Manchester, “Founding Mothers: The Verin Case and the Liberty of Conscience in Early Rhode Island”
Join The Rhode Island Historical Society next Thursday, September 17th at 6pm for Dr. Margaret Manchester’s virtual discussion, “Founding Mothers: The Verin Case and the Liberty of Conscience in Early Rhode Island.”
Dr. Manchester will be discussing the historic Verin case, a situation of domestic violence and liberty of conscience. Joshua and Jane Verin were some of the first colonists in the settlement of Providence. Dr. Manchester will draw connections between the women of Providence and their direct and indirect influence on the decision making, freedom of conscience, and the Rhode Island Charter of 1663.
