Dr. Robin J. Greene, Recipient of the 2020-21 Joseph R. Accinno Faculty Teaching Award.
Dr. Robin J. Greene, associate professor of history, has been named the 2020-21 Joseph R. Accinno Faculty Teaching Award recipient. The honor is presented annually to the Providence College faculty member “who best exhibits excellence in teaching, passion and enthusiasm for learning, and genuine concern for students’ academic and personal growth.”
Dr. Greene has been a member of the PC faculty since 2012. Her research interests include Greek poetry, Greek historiography, and ancient natural history. She teaches in the DWC program, courses on ancient history, literature, and mythology, and all levels of Latin and Greek courses. These include or have included “Homer,” “Plato’s Apology,” “Ancient Egypt,” “Roman Poetry,” “Cicero and Livy,” and “Herodotus’ Histories.”
Outside of the classroom, Dr. Greene is a frequently published author and active participant in conferences around the world. She’s also a member of the Society for Classical Studies and the Classical Association of New England.
Dr. Greene was nominated for this honor by colleagues and students – all of whom praised her passion for the subject matter and her dedication to students.
“Dr. Robin Greene is an extraordinary and innovative teacher … one of the best I’ve ever seen. She has had a very serious and particular impact on a great number of students that have passed through PC,” wrote a faculty colleague.
Her student nominators concurred. One wrote, “William Arthur Ward once said, ‘The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.’ Throughout the past 15 weeks, Dr. Greene has proven on countless occasions that she is the superior teacher about whom Ward spoke. We have been told, we have been taught, and we have been shown, but above all, we have been inspired.”
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Greene on this well-deserved honor!
