Dr. Steven Carl Smith’s book published by Penn State University Press

Dr. Steven Carl Smith’s first book, An Empire of Print: The New York Publishing Trade in the Early American Republic was published in June 2017 by the Pennsylvania State University Press and will be part of the Penn State Series in the History of the Book. He has also put the finishing touches on a review essay titled “The Many Histories of Books in the Early American Republic,” for the Journal of the Early Republic. In June, he travelled to Victoria, B.C. to present a paper titled “’DeWitt Clinton, My Most Implacable Enemy, Has Died’: Politics in the Margins in the Early American Republic” at theSociety for the History of Authorship, Reading, and Publishing (SHARP) Conference.
